CMSgt Michael T. Barrowman received some unexpected news from Mrs. Margaret Ream, Historian, Organizational History Branch, Air Force Historical Research Agency.  The 510th Fighter Bomber Squadron changed the 510th emblem in 1953, and there is no other record of modification until now.

The following is the transcribed order for modification.

1.  In accordance with AFR 900-7, 24 July 1950, the following modified emblem is approved for the 510th Fighter Bomber Squadron to replace the emblem approved 7 July 1944:

SQUADRON EMBLEM:  On a light turquoise blue disc, border black, a caricatured wolf in evening attire, royal purple, seated in cockpit of caricatured silver aircraft and aiming two large black revolvers held in forepaws, supporting a black fire bomb, fired proper, with his feet, all in front of a large white cloud formation; caricatured aircraft having face expressing ferocity, with open mouth red and jagged teeth white, as per record drawing.

SIGNIFICANCE:  The wolf (a fierce and cunning fighter) aiming a large revolver in each forepaw and supporting an aerial bomb with his feet while dive bombing in a jet aircraft symbolizes the fierce attack and coordination in which this squadron accomplishes its mission.

2.  Enclosed is the official painting of the 510th Fighter Bomber Squadron approved emblem, for file and guidance in preparation of reproduction of subject emblem.
